Apparently, there was to be some sort of banquet taking place in the near future. The funny thing was that Riannah could care less. In fact, she would prefer not to attend. Perhaps the food would be tasty, but that hardly constituted a reason for her to go. It was just another excuse for her get all dressed up in an elaborate manner-certainly not something she would be comfortable in. Being of royal lineage was not, as most people assumed, a gift. Of course it did have its advantages. She was never plagued with poverty or hunger, and the castle was well protected from the perils of the world. Then again, it also brought unwanted attention, responsibilities, and very little freedom for a woman. In that respect, it might have been more desirable to live the life of a peasant or servant. Perhaps her life would have been a bit more difficult physically, but at least she wouldn’t be forced to attend every single ball or banquet. Unfortunately, she had a rather short attention span, and it didn’t take much to bore her.
Oh well, she thought, forcing her troubled notions from her mind. It’s not like I can do anything about it. I will just have to endure it, if that is possible.
At the moment, she was attempting to enjoy herself, and it would defeat the purpose if she spent too much time dwelling on her apprehension. The sounds of cascading water seemed to sooth her agitated nerves, and for the moment she forgot about the upcoming banquet. She sat upon the emerald blades of grass, supporting herself by leaning against the trunk of a large oak tree. Gentle rays of sunlight beat down upon her pale cheeks, and her eyes closed as a slight smile formed upon her lips. It was indeed a peaceful setting, and she assumed it would stay that way. People rarely traveled to the secluded location, at least not in Riannah’s experience.

Jenna Berry, a squire of Bijorne, was wandering around the Bijorne River, searching, as ever, for the knight that trained her. He was always disappearing, leaving her to run around the whole kingdom in an attempt to locate him. She hated it when he did that! When she spotted Riannah, Jenna instantly froze in her tracts and bowed quicky, murmuring, "So sorry to intrude, your highness," and began backing away slowly.
She knew Riannah didn't much like being called "your highness" but if she didn't do that and someone heard her, she'd be in huge trouble, and might even be sent to the guardhouse for a bit. She didn't want that, even though she wanted to address Riannah by her first name, as she liked to be called. "Have you seen my mentor anywhere, by the way?" she asked suddenly. Maybe the princess would have some sort of clue as to where he was?
((I still don't have a knight to train me....))

Riannah heard the rustling of leaves in the background, but wasn’t really concerned. It wasn’t uncommon for a squirrel or some other woodland creature to scuttle through the forest. It was the forest after all. The sound however, seemed to be increase in volume, and she could clearly distinguish the sound of human foot steps. Her dark eyes shot open, and she scrambled up from her reclining position. She wasn’t particularly fond of being surprised, but it was only because she wasn’t accustomed to it. These days, you could never be quite sure who or what lurked in the woods. Still, she wasn’t as nitpicky as typical royalty. She might have been a little edgy at times, but she wasn’t the haughty princess that one might expect.
To be quite honest, she was quite shocked to see a younger girl directly in front of her. Her tense shoulders relaxed as she forced a cordial smile. She did prefer that people call her by her first name, but she wasn’t about to get outraged over a simple mistake. Riannah didn’t find Jenna to be annoyance-at least not at the moment.
“It’s Riannah if you don’t mind,” she corrected. “I don’t believe I know who you are. What is your name?”
Picking up her skirts, she moved a little closer to get a better look at the girl. Riannah was a little ashamed that she didn’t recognize the squire. She of all people should have known a resident of her own kingdom, or at least recognized Jenna’s face.
“Your mentor? No, I have not seen anyone else pass through here. I can help you look though.”
To be honest, Riannah was positively bored, and she needed something to occupy her time with. While searching for a lost knight wasn’t exactly the most exciting activity in the world, it was better than the alternative.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Riannah. I'm Jenna Berry, and I'd be very thankful if you'd help me find him. He's always disappearing!" Jenna sighed, shaking her head at the common disappearance of her mentor. "Thank you."

A pleasant smile formed upon her lips, and she nodded her head in agreement. She had heard that there was a knight in Bijorne that was particularly forgetful, and she assumed that Jenna was referring to the same one. The princess found it rather amusing actually, and she couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of a scatterbrained knight.
“’Tis a pleasure to meet you Jenna.”
She made her way towards the girl, finally halting when she was at her side. Facing Jenna, she cocked her head to the side in a questioning matter. She had absolutely no idea where the knight could have run off to, nor did she know where to look. For all she knew, he could be halfway across the kingdom or less than ten feet away. The possibilities were endless, and it could take hours to find the missing man. Heaving a sigh, she turned to Jenna for a possible answer.
“Where do you suggest we look first? I have to admit I’ve never had to look for a lost knight before, but it seems like you have had to do this quite often.”

"Oh, yes, more than you know. Sometimes I just don't understand how a squire could be more responsible than her mentor!" Jenna laughed good-naturedly, smiling. She liked Riannah, and was glad she was not pricy or all "You're a commoner, and so you don't deserve to talk to me", like some royal people she'd met before.
"I guess we ought to look down at the harbor first. It's the closest thing and he's known to go down there to check on shipments and loads. To think, he remembers to do a job with inanimate objects, but he forgets about his own squire!" Jenna sighed, a slight giggle hiding in her tone. She indicated for Riannah to follow her and went off, walking rather slowly, for she was in no hurry to find her knight...again, for the third time that week. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so why not enjoy it?

Riannah was far from conceited. She may have been short tempered at times, but only towards people who got on her nerves. Ironically, those kinds of people were more often than not royalty themselves. She hated to admit it, but most princesses were rather unpleasant to be around. It was a stereotype that Riannah desperately sought to escape from. Most people failed to realize how troublesome it was to be thought of a snobbish, high-maintenance woman. People either attempted to befriend her based on her status, or they ignored her altogether because they were intimidated.
“I think all men are like that,” she said with a light-hearted smile. She wasn’t joking either. Sometimes it seemed as if women and girls were so much more responsible than their male counterparts.
Noticing Jenna’s cue to follow, Riannah was happy to oblige. It was indeed a lovely day; the kind of day that Riannah never wanted to end. She considered such days to be a blessing, and dreaded the days when the weather was foul. That would mean she would be forced to spend the day cooped up inside the castle, and her entire day would be spoiled. Her mood would turn sour, and she would become a very disagreeable person to be around.
“How long have you been a squire? You don’t seem very old to me.”
She looked down at her feet, avoiding Jenna’s gaze. She sincerely hoped it wasn’t an offensive question. She hadn’t meant that being younger was something to be ashamed of. She just thought that Jenna seemed awfully young to be training to be a knight. Perhaps it wasn’t unusual, but it still seemed odd. Actually, she was a bit envious of Jenna’s freedom to choose her own profession. Riannah had not chosen to be a princess, and she would have gladly given up her crown to live a normal life.

((okay, we can end this thread and I'll start a new one at the harbor to reply to you))
Jenna continued walking, but smiled. "No, I guess I am a bit young to be a squire, but the overseer thought I was ready. Usually squires and apprentices don't start training until they're about fourteen or fifteen, but I started last year, when I was twelve. I'm thirteen now and the youngest squire, which isn't always very fun, though I am rather flattered that I started so soon. I'm not trying to brag. It doesn't sound like I am, does it?" she asked hesitantly, not wanting to seem snooty or stuck-up.
Yes, she had her faults (namely, stealing from the head castle cook), but she had never taken an ego trip before, even when she'd been appointed squire at this early age, and she didn't like to boast or brag. She was simply telling Riannah how she felt; sometimes unhappy that she was the youngest, and sometimes proud, but never snobbish.
